Preliminary Discovery of an Asteroid by AnubhavSwamy and Anuj Gupta

20150709_094338 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6). It was indeed a proud moment for Ryan International School, Sohna Road when two students from the school did a Preliminary Discovery of an Asteroid and also three NEO (Near Earth Objects) observations. AnubhavSwamy and Anuj Gupta, Class X students, took part in the All India Asteroid Search Campaign (AIASC), organized by the SPACE Foundation in collaboration with the International Astronomical Search Collaboration from June 1, 2015 – July 6, 2015.  Both the students received specialized training from SPACE and analyzed the images taken with the 50” telescopes located at the Astronomical Research Institute, at Charleston, Illinois (US) to make original discoveries of asteroids and near earth objects (NEO) with the help of a software called Astrometrica. The object found by the two Ryanites is preliminarily named 50LB002; and was in their image set “08-2015 DW215-0625-50″ dated June 25. The three NEO Observations are named “2000 CT101″,”2015 DW215″ and “2015 GW12″ in the image sets “04-2000 CT101-0605-50″, “08-2015 DW215-0625-50″ and “15-2015 GW12-0702-50″ respectively. Indeed it is a wonderful feat made by the young ryanites. While it is a moment to be grateful to God Almighty for the talents and wisdom given, it is also an occasion to be thankful to our Chairman Sir, Dr. A. F. Pinto, and Managing Director Madam Grace Pinto, for opening up various avenues for students to explore and excel. We are eagerly waiting for the discovery to be declared as Provisional, which will lead to an International acclaim
