A skit on psychosocial care in Disaster Management

IMG_0844 ‘Together we care, Disasters do not dare’ Any disaster leaves a profound trail of suffering to the community affected by it. Along with relief, rehabilitation and the care of physical health and injuries, psychosocial and mental health issues are also important and they need to be addressed too. Psychosocial support in context to disasters refers to interventions that help individuals, families and groups to restore social cohesion and infrastructure along with maintaining their independence and dignity. Students of classes 10th to 12th from Ryan International School, Sohna Road, Gurgaon presented a skit “Together we care, Disasters do not dare” in morning assembly under ISA activity in which they depicted that apart from logistic and material help, the sufferings of human beings require psychosocial and mental health interventions. Students, considering the post-traumatic symptoms, highlighted the need for mental health services through games and activities conducted by trainers to the victims to help them in coping up with stress caused by any natural or human made disaster. Principal, Ms. Rakhi Verma appreciated the efforts put up by participants to sensitize the audience towards emotional reactions & coping capacity of victims and also towards role of general public in providing adequate social support to the survivors.
